KCETB Shares its Adoption of the ALTITUDE Charter

KCETB Joins the National Call to Action on Universal Design

KCETB has publicly declared its support for and adoption of ALTITUDE – the National Charter for Universal Design (UD) in Tertiary Education and has joined the national call to action for institutions and agencies to work towards a more universally designed tertiary education system.

KCETB strongly believes that ‘inclusion is everyone’s business’, and that all staff play a role in creating an environment in which the huge diversity of learners in our community can thrive. KCETB adapts Altitude Charter

Universal design is central to KCETB efforts to make that statement a reality, and by adopting the ALTITUDE Charter, KCETB has committed to work collaboratively across the organisation to embed a UD approach more firmly in our practices and processes in the years ahead, building on the good work already achieved in this area.

Commenting on KCETB’s adoption of ALTITUDE, Director of Further Education and Training, Martha Bolger said: “For KCETB, the Altitude Charter provides a number of benefits, one being a really effective approach to compliance, the charter helps our organisation fully align with national legislation, policy and statutory obligations in an efficient staff friendly and learner-centered way.

By adopting the ALTITUDE Charter Kilkenny and Carlow ETB will continue to work for and towards sustainable progress towards a truly inclusive learning educational experience for the learner population of Kilkenny and Carlow.

As part of the Maturity Model, KCETB is documenting our strengths and planned improvements regarding Universal Design. It shows that KCETB is strongly committed to inclusion, fair assessment, and learner-centred practice.”

The aim is to move towards a system where ‘Inclusion is Everyone’s Business’, where all staff play their part in delivering an inclusive educational experience.
