KCETB Student of the Year Awards 2023

Pictured at a special ceremony in Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel of the KCETB Student of the Year 2023 awards is one of the awardees Ciara Corcoran from Coláiste Cois Siúire with KCETB Director of Schools Dr Pauline Egan, KCETB Chairperson, Cllr Fergal Browne, KCETB Chief Executive Eileen Curtis. Now in its tenth year, KCETB's Student of the Year Award recognises personal and academic achievement and is awarded to the student in each of its 13 post-primary schools who has contributed the most during their time in secondary education. Each student received a specially commissioned solid silver medal engraved with their name, the award title and the name of their school and a printed citation from their principal outlining the student's achievements and contribution during their school journey. As well as being awarded Student of the Year, Ciara is also the recipient, from Coláiste Cois Siúire , of the inaugural Vicky Phelan Scholarship to assist her with her third-level studies . Find Your People is winning anthem to represent 340,000 ETB learners

18/8/23 ***NO REPRO FEE*** Finding their Voice Ten learners from Cork ETB’s National Learning Network today followed in the footsteps of U2 and The Rolling Stones by recording their own song – Find Your People - at the iconic Windmill Lane studios in advance of its formal adoption as the anthem of more than 340,000 learners across Ireland’s 16 Education and Training Boards (ETBs).Riverdance composer Bill Whelan, rapper/songwriter MuRli, and musician/composer Ellen Cranitch were the prestigious judges of the ETBI Anthem Competition held to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Education & Training Boards.Education & Training Boards Ireland invitedlearners and participants in all ETB schools, colleges and programmes around the country to compose an anthem to celebrate the work and core values of the largest state providers of education and training. The initiative was run in partnership with Music Generation, Ireland’s national music education programme that gives children and young people access to high-quality performance music education.Despite autistic, mental health and learning challenges, the composers (aged 16-33yrs) worked collectively to create an uplifting anthem that captures the essence of empowerment, inclusivity and lifelong learning within education and training boards. The winners will premiere their anthem on the 28 September 2023 in Cork City Hall in front of the 16 ETBs before its release as part of a nationwide campaign to promote the services of ETBs.
