Youth Office Functions

  • Administer annual funding to youth work UBU projects and services on behalf of the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEIDY).
  • Administer the Local Youth Club Grant Scheme, and other similar schemes, that provide small grants for volunteer-led youth groups.
  • Review, consider and process grant applications from funded organisations and voluntary youth clubs.
  • Report to the DCEIDY on projects and services funded through KCETB, including validation annual reports and funding applications.
  • Work collaboratively with local youth services to meet the needs of young people, aged 10-24 years, in Kilkenny and Carlow.
  • Identify and evidence the needs of young people, and the priority areas and target groups of young people, to be addressed through the DCEDIY area profile, needs assessment and service requirement tool.
  • Provide training, support and development opportunities to staff and volunteers in the sector.
  • Promote the positive impact of youth work in the lives of young people.
  • Contribute to the development of youth work at a national level by working with Education and Training Board Ireland (ETBI), the DCEDIY and other bodies.
  • Support the sustainability of youth work through advocating for appropriate resources to meet the needs of young people.
