Music Generation Carlow

Background

Music Generation Carlow (MGC)  is a performance music education programme for county Carlow. It is part of Music Generation Ireland, a national partnership programme whose mission is to create inspiring experiences for children and young people through music.

Collectively, Music Generation strives to transform children and young people’s lives by providing them with the opportunity to create, play and perform music in their own communities and on their own terms.

A national music education programme, Music Generation was established as a result of a ground-breaking partnership between philanthropy, the Irish Government and Local Music Education Partnerships (LMEPs).

About Music Generation Carlow

Music Generation Carlow (MGC) is a performance music education programme that provides opportunities for children and young people to access a range of high-quality, subsidised vocal and instrumental tuition in their local area.

The programme offers performance music education in early years settings, childcare services and schools (primary and post primary) that aim to open up the world of creative music-making to children and young people. Its primary school-based Encore programme offers vocal and instrumental tuition programmes, including choral singing, strings, recorder, brass, pop and rock, and traditional instruments for both small groups and full classes. Separately, Music Generation Carlow works in partnership with a number of music-rich schools wherein every pupil, from junior infants to sixth class, has the opportunity to engage in performance music education.

MGC also offer music progression opportunities/tuition  through two successful community hub programmes (Carlow town and Borris) and currently has five established county ensembles, which meet weekly.

MGC is managed by Carlow Music Education Partnership and led by KCETB, in partnership with Carlow Local Authorities.
