Recently, colleagues from Kilkenny and Carlow ETB, Waterford and Wexford ETB, and Kildare and Wicklow ETB came together to deliver Word Against the Word, a powerful one-man play by Keith Dunphy that explores the lived experience of dyslexia.

Blending storytelling, humour, and Shakespearean references, the performance offered a moving insight into the challenges and strengths associated with dyslexia, while prompting important conversations about inclusion, potential, and the role educators play in supporting diverse learners.
One of the strongest messages from the event was the transformative impact an educator can have when they recognise difference, nurture strengths, and create opportunities for learners to thrive. The post-performance discussion also highlighted how traditional, one-size-fits-all approaches can limit learners whose strengths lie beyond conventional educational frameworks.
For KCETB, this reinforces the importance of our growing creative industries provision. By creating alternative pathways, supporting diverse ways of learning, and investing in creative opportunities, we can help ensure that talent and creativity are recognised and nurtured across our communities.
This event was also a great example of the value of regional collaboration. By working together across our ETBs, we can share ideas, broaden opportunities, and continue building a more inclusive and responsive education and training sector for all learners.
