Further Education and Training

I am looking for a course

KCETB's Further Education and Training (FET) provides opportunities for learners across Kilkenny and Carlow in a wide variety of courses. Learners are supported in choosing the right course and in their educational journey with us.

KCETB Tertiary Degrees

KCETB's Tertiary Degrees provide the opportunity for learners across Kilkenny and Carlow to access a degree in their local Further Education and Training College with no CAO point, no fees while in FET and seamless progression to the remainder of their degree at the relevant SETU campus.

I am an employer

KCETB works with employers across Kilkenny and Carlow in organising and facilitating staff training. All training is tailored to meet industry needs and is QQI Levels 1-6 accredited.

I am looking for an apprenticeship

An apprenticeship provides the opportunity to "earn while you learn" across a broad range of careers. Learning takes place both on the job and in a college setting while the learner continues to be paid throughout.

I am a community and voluntary group

KCETB’s community education service supports the delivery of a broad range of education programmes in partnership with community providers/groups.

Quality Assurance

The KCETB FET Service is committed to creating and maintaining a culture of quality, assuring that all learners participating on programmes of further education and training benefit from a quality assured experience.

FET Learner Pathways

KCETB’s FET service is responsible for the management and operation of 17 QQI registered centres across 13 FET hubs and 30 community-based outreach locations across Kilkenny and Carlow. The FET service supports some 8,000 learners annually and offers a range of funded full and part-time learning opportunities and supports. Several FET locations throughout Kilkenny and Carlow are part of a community of learners and are exciting places to start or progress your education and training. FET can put you on a pathway to anywhere you want to go –  in education, in work and in life.

KCETB’s FET service offers a range of nationally and internationally accredited courses that offer valuable opportunities to move into exciting and interesting vocations and careers, or which provide a platform to develop the skills to flourish in higher education. KCETB’s FET centres have progression agreements with a number of third-level institutions, with clear links between the further education and training course and your chosen third-level course. There is clear evidence that learners who have completed a FET course gain valuable academic, social and personal skills, which support their transition to, engagement with and retention in third-level education.

FET courses are offered from Levels 1 to 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). A key feature of FET courses is the focus on vocational learning and skills development. They also present opportunities for work experience, work practice and/or work-based learning.
