Kilkenny Adult Learning Service Photographic Exhibition
A huge congratulations to all our BTEI KCETB Kilkenny Adult Learners from Level 3 QQI Photography, who proudly displayed their final end-of-year photographs today as part of the group exhibition Many Perspectives at An Chéad Tine Art Gallery.
The exhibition celebrates photography as a way of seeing, exploring and expressing the world around us. Our learners, aged from 16 to 75, each brought their own experiences and unique perspectives to their photography. The exhibition features a wonderful variety of work, from macro photography of flowers and plants and photographs of wild flies, to atmospheric black-and-white scenes from Kilkenny.
Together, the photographs demonstrate the individual voices, creativity and skills of the group. On Friday 4th September, Barbara Behan from Kilkenny Adult Learning Centre officially opened the exhibition in Dunnes Stores, Kilkenny. She spoke about the exhibition as a celebration of adult learning, creativity, inclusion and achievement. She praised the students for their dedication throughout the year and thanked tutors Geraldine Walsh and Thomas Fortune for their guidance, encouragement and support.
Barbara also thanked Mary Doyle for all her work in bringing the exhibition together and for giving the students this wonderful opportunity, and thanked Karen Norton for all her work organising it and during the run up and also in initiating the exhibition. Mary Doyle congratulated the students on the high standard of their work and spoke movingly about her own journey, from being a former QQI Level 4 student in Kilkenny, to Level 8 in SETU and Level 9 in NCAD. Mary said it was a privilege and an emotional moment to welcome these wonderful students and spoke of the pride visible on their families’ faces as they viewed the work.
