Music Generation the Focus of new Exhibition at Carlow Town Library

Music Generation the Focus of new Exhibition at Carlow Town Library

Music Generation Carlow marks over a decade

A powerful celebration of youth creativity and community will take place from Monday 27th of April in Carlow Town Library as Music Generation Carlow launches their first ever 3-week exhibition marking over 10 years of impact.

Music Generation is Ireland’s national performance music education programme, created to give children and young people (ages 0–18) access to highquality, affordable performance music education in their own communities.

Launching on the 27th of April at 5pm in the Shaw Room in Carlow Town Library, the exhibition will bring together a compelling visual story of the programmes journey since 2013. Through striking photography and immersive videos of past performances the exhibition will capture the energy, talent and collaboration that has defined Music Generation Carlow’s work in delivering inclusive and high-quality music education to children and young people across the county. musician at visual theatre carlow

The launch event will feature live performances by young musicians, offering a vibrant look into the creativity at the heart of Music Generation Carlow’s programme. It also signals the beginning of the 3-week programme of events, with the exhibition space hosting a series of live performances and interactive workshops, further highlighting the talent and musical activity taking place throughout Carlow.

Music Development Officer Gavin Barr said “I have loved being part of Music Generation Carlow since it began in 2013. It is incredibly rewarding to see how the program has grown and the impact it has had in our schools, communities and ensemble programs. I’ve had the privilege of working as both a Musician Educator and now as Music Development Officer, and this exhibition offers an opportunity to reflect on that journey. Looking back has reminded me of all the creativity, collaboration and sense of community that has always been at the heart of what we do. We’re really looking forward to sharing these moments with the people of Carlow and celebrating the talent that continues to emerge from MGC.”

The upcoming exhibition not only celebrates past achievements but also shines a light on the people behind them, from musician educators to the wider community who continue to support and shape its success.

The exhibition invites all to view previous performances, take part in workshops, attend ensembles and to join the community of Music Generation Carlow

The programme’s purpose is to transform young people’s lives through music, ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to learn, create, play, and perform music.

Music Generation Carlow is open to applicants for its upcoming term (Sept 2026).
